Carmela is a local artisan, teacher, musician, and activist. She is a longtime advocate for the Latino community, and bilingual in English and Spanish. She spent four years living and traveling in Mexico, which is where she learned the art of macramé. She manages a small business with her small husband creating unique jewelry and macramé crafts. She also studies, composes, and teaches music. She has a documentary photography project about the housing crisis which shares portraits and intimate stories.
